ZINES

What is a zine?

A zine is a self-published, self-circulated magazine full of words and pictures and all of those other things magazines have. Except for ads. You'll find no cheesy full-page spreads for cologne in any of our publications.

Why does Starhouse have a zine?

Because they're fun! Well, actually, because we want to put out entertainment and education even when we can't be with you in person. Especially since we only put up one or two shows each year, not only do you get bored, we get bored. With a zine, we get to show our audience what matters to us and give them access to educational resources they might not otherwise have. We get to advocate for our community and build a community of our own. Most of all, we get to provide you, the reader, with something lovely with which to pass the time.

Why should I read it?

This is normally the part where we'd advertise action, adventure, and fire juggling. But this zine isn't pure heartstopping entertainment like we usually provide. It's about issues that are important to us, and, hopefully, to our audience. Zines are the community theatre of periodicals: it's community-led writing published by starving artists to help bring their community together and bring some light into everyone's lives. Plus, it's pay-what-you-want. If you've got a dollar to spare and an afternoon to while away, why not give us a try?
